
Chris Thorpe - a personal profile
Chris Thorpe is a world-renowned independent lawyer in the upstream oil and gas industry - and an established lecturer and author.
Chris has an MA and LLB in law from Magdalene College, Cambridge and trained as a barrister in London. He worked for eight years as an in-house lawyer for BP and Marathon.
Since 1991, Chris has run his own upstream legal practice, C.P.Thorpe, which has acted for many upstream clients, both large and small. He has extensive experience of international upstream transactions, principally in the North Sea, the FSU, Africa and the Middle East.
Chris has spoken at many UK and International Conferences and Seminars, both public and in-house. His most popular current lecture is the “Fundamentals of Upstream Petroleum Agreements”.
This is a two-day course intended as an introduction to the principles and practice of upstream oil and gas contracts.
Chris is also the co-author with John Bailey of “Commercial Contracts”.
The book is a practical guide for business people to English commercial law and practice.
The first edition of the book was published in 1996 by Woodhead Publishing. A revised edition was published in 1999 by Kogan Page. A Chinese version of the revised first edition was published in 2002 by China Summer, the largest business title publisher in China.
